About Our Family

Meet Sammy, Hogan, Orio, Bobby, Lacey, and Mickey
Five American Eskimos and one English Springer Spaniel mix
Not shown in this picture - Annie (Beagle/Bassett mix) and Katie (Hound mix)
Sammy (American Eskimo)
Sammy is about 6 years old. His real name is Sam Snead, named after the famous golfer who won more tournaments (152 worldwide) than any other. Sammy had been turned in as a stray to the Northampton County SPCA in Easton, Pennsylvania and we adopted him in December 2004. He is always happy, friendly to everyone, and as sweet as can be.
Hogan (American Eskimo)
When Hogan joined our family in January, 2003, we were petless. He was only 13 weeks old. What a difference a puppy makes! Hogan is named for Ben Hogan (do you see a golf theme here?) Like many Eskies, he can be a bit 'barky', but he loves people and giving kisses. He often comes to the store, and loves "going to work"!
Annie (Beagle Bassett mix)
In early 2009, Annie was wandering the streets of Plymouth, NC, with her 4 puppies. Pet lover Brenda Spencer rescued them all, and we were able to find great homes for the puppies.
Unfortunately, Annie had heartworm, so we kept her at our house during her treatment. She is such a spunky little girl, with so much personality, that we decided to adopt her. She has been a great addition to our family, and she has made a special friendship with Katie.
She loves to go for walks, or lay on the back of the couch and look out the window with her buddy, Bobby. Her tail never stops wagging!
Katie (Hound mix)
In September, 2009, we took Katie from a man who brought her into the store and threatened to take her home and shoot her if we did not take her. She had apparently recently had puppies and had BBs embedded in her ears and back legs. We fell in love with her immediately and decided to give her a home with us.
She was very thin and had a mild case of heartworm, which has been treated. She's been spayed and has put on a bit of weight. Katie is a real sweetheart! She loves other dogs, and enjoys coming in to the store to greet customers. At home, she loves to lay on the couch and gnaw on a rawhide, or relax on a lounge chair while watching TV.
Bobby (American Eskimo)
Like Sammy, Bobby (real name Bobby Jones) was turned in as a stray to the Northampton County SPCA. We adopted him in November, 2004. He is probably about 7 years old now. Bobby is a bit fearful around strangers, and especially likes to bark at trucks and the UPS man. If you give him a treat, he warms up very quickly.
Lacey (American Eskimo)
Lacey is the pack leader! She can be quite bossy with her brothers and sisters. We adopted Lacey in December, 2003 from a family that no longer wanted her. She is about 14 years old but she's as spunky as a puppy. Lacey loves her treats; she says "I'm not fat; I'm fluffy!"
Mickey (American Eskimo)
Phil Mickelson would be flattered to know that our Mickelson was named for him. Mickey came to us from Eskie Rescuers in September, 2004. We believe he is about 16 - 18 years old. He was pulled from an animal shelter in Chester, PA just in the nick of time. He was shaved almost bald because of his matted coat, and he had 15 teeth extracted. We believe Mickey may have come from a puppy farm because he shows no signs of ever being socialized--he does not even know how to play with toys! It is sad to think that a dog like Mickey spent the first 10 or so years of his life in a wire crate. Although he is not overly affectionate, he likes to be with his family. Despite his age, he is in pretty good shape and we hope to have him with us for many years ahead.
Tony (Domestic Shorthair)
Everyone who comes in the store knows Tony! He is our 'chief of staff' and Head Greeter.
Tony is about 10 years old and weighs about 20 pounds. He is one big cat! His previous owner gave him up to the Tri-County Animal Shelter, and we adopted him in March of 2009.
Although he dreams of being an only cat, he is always friendly and welcoming to the many foster cats and kittens we've had in the store. He is not particularly fond of dogs, and will retreat to his special hideaway under the front desk when we have canine visitors.
